CTMH Album Retreat ~ Sweet Life

I had the great honor of being asked to adapt several of the Lay Outs used at the fabulous Close To My Heart Fall 2013 Album Retreat and to teach some concepts on how to create wonderful projects while saving time and money in a workshop gathering.  The original LO’s were totally decked out – which is great when creating one but can create a problem of time and money when making multiples.   You can still create a beautiful piece of art without wasting paper or time.  Here’s how I re-designed “The Sweet Life Layout” using Sarita and Proplayer Background and Texture papers:

Finsihed Sweet Life

I made huge changes to this Layout.  These are just a few of them:  I used the colors differently so there were definite primary and secondary colors using sponged and trimmed B&T strips and scraps of Lagoon and Honey as accent pieces;  I arranged the layout so the pieces flowed smoother – starting at the top left (like reading a book) continuing throughout the LO;  I used a more generic title;  I pulled in the colors and shapes from the Classified element with more colors and repeating it on the left page with the date; I cut back on some of the accessories without sacrificing bling,  The biggest changes were in using my favorite tool (no surprise here!) – Cricut Craft Room with CTMH Cricut Cartridges!

SS CCR Sweet Life Overlay

The original used 2 CTMH Artbooking Cricut Cartridge Overlays that are completely filled with repeated circles that are quite time intensive to cut and are wasted when covered with paper.  So I filled the center of these overlays and added my photo mats and Classified to be cut at the same time.  It’s a great use of time and paper!

I love using the negatives from pieces cut on my Cricut.  I incorporated circles that repeat the design in the overlay and also draw the eye to the focal title piece.  You can also see where I used our awesome Slate Twist Ties and Bakers Twine.  I popped the title off the Lagoon piece and sponged some Denim Ink to tie in the B&T paper.  I loved using the Aqua Dots on this LO and have plenty left-over – enough to do 8 Layouts per package or use on other projects.

On Cricut Craft Room, I was able to write a more generic title and make it exactly the size I needed to pull the other elements and colors together.

Close Up Envelope

Notice how I added the red Cardstock behind the “Classified” to make it pop and again, used the twist ties.  You can also see the detailing of using the Background and Texture Cardstock decorative strip (trimmed and sponged to get just the right look).  I also added another circle negative to the journalling piece inside the envelope.

Close Up 2013

Here you can see where I repeated the “Classified” element but eliminated some of the layers and words and added the date.

The last thing I want to show you is a tip I love to use when I want to get the most out of my paper.  I put the minimum size I needed for my “Life” on CCR and filled in the 12×24 mat to get as many as I could in that space.   As you can see, there is a lot of wasted space that would just end up in my scrap files.  So I group the whole thing and stretch it to fill the page.  You can see how nicely it uses up all the paper and gives me a little more bang for the buck!

Once again, using the Whisper and Slate Cardstocks work beautifully with Black and White photos.  I loved putting my Son and his family on these pages – they really do have a “Sweet Life”!  If you would like this CCR file, simply order any of these products from my CTMH website and I’ll send you the file free!  Sheri.ctmh.com
