Welcome to my Sweet Studio! If you’re coming from the Delightful Denise‘s Blog, you’re on the right path.
It was hard to narrow down my favorite new product to just one but since my overall favorite product right now is our Picture My Life Kits, then my very favorite must be the beautiful For Always themed PML cards. Of course, I love using all of the card kits, but this one is so versatile, making them a breeze to use on lots of different projects.
I love the variety of colors, patterns and textures in this kit – they’re perfect to use in any scrapbook but I especially love using them as Background and Texture paper for other projects. On this Hinged Display Tray, I used them as my patterned paper and simply added a little Black Cardstock and Ink – all other papers and patterns were from the card kit. Notice how I break up the squared look by repeating the rounded corners of the PML cards and mixing it up with the straight edges.
The finish on the Hinged Tray is so perfect for the “Chalk” look that is so popular right now. As always, I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to create layers. This is especially necessary when making any Home Decor item but really makes a difference on Display Trays. It creates hidden pictures and interest behind every layer and makes you want to take a second look. When needing a variety of depths, I layer my Foam Tape in different combinations. I’m thrilled we now offer a thin 3-D Foam Tape for even more options!
Don’t forget to think “outside-the-box”! Place photos, messages and accents on top of the tray and try splitting photos into different sections. To do this, you usually need to cut the width of the shelf/divider out of the photo – this seems wrong but your eye will make up the difference when continuing the lines. In this case, the Display Tray shelf is approximately 1/8″ wide so I cut a strip that size from the center of the photo. Even though my son is very tall, he and his darling wife would have looked stretched beyond normal if I had simply cut the photo in half.
When creating your layers, don’t stop at layering your cards and paper but also add depth and character to your accents. I used the 3-D Complements from our new Chalk It Up line, Black Mini-Medleys, Black Shimmer Trim, Epoxy Bubbles, and our new black and white enamel stars – all made more interesting by combining and/or stacking them for a bigger look.
I am currently running a series of PML ideas – stay tuned for upcoming posts including some in the next week that feature more ideas using the awesome For Always PML kit or check out some from my archives including 10 reason I love PML.
